Jeep has officially announced the return of the Jeep Cherokee nameplate with an all-new, sixth-generation model set to debut in late 2025. This marks a significant revival for the iconic SUV, which was discontinued after the 2023 model year.
“The all-new Jeep Cherokee headlines our efforts to deliver more product, innovation, choice and standard content to customers than ever before,” said Bob Broderdorf, Jeep CEO. “Jeep Cherokee will boast competitive pricing that strikes at the core of the largest vehicle segment and sits perfectly between Jeep Compass and Jeep Grand Cherokee to bolster our winning mainstream lineup.”
Hybrid-Only Powertrain
In a notable shift, the new Cherokee will be Jeep’s first North American vehicle offered exclusively with a hybrid powertrain. It will feature a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with a three-speed hybrid automatic transmission. This setup aims to deliver a balance of performance and efficiency, with 4×4 capability remaining standard.
Design and Positioning
The 2026 Cherokee will return to a more traditional SUV design, characterized by strong lines and an upright stance, moving away from the coupe-like rooflines of some recent crossovers. It will slot between the Compass and Grand Cherokee in Jeep’s lineup, catering to the midsize SUV segment. The design will honor the Cherokee’s legacy while incorporating modern elements to appeal to today’s consumers.
Interior and Technology
While full details are yet to be released, early images suggest a clean and upscale interior with a tech-forward layout. Expect advanced infotainment features, improved safety technologies, and a comfortable cabin designed for both daily commutes and off-road adventures.
