Jeep Wrangler 4xe Rubicon Charging Up
2022 Jeep Wrangler 4xe Rubicon Charging Up / Jeep

The Jeep Wrangler is many things – Best 4x4 in Women's World Car of the Year, MotorTrend's 2019 SUV of the Year, and now the Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the best-selling hybrid in America. In fact, the Wrangler 4xe outsold all of Toyota's plug-in vehicles combined.

In the first half of 2022, the Jeep plug-in outsold the next-most popular hybrid – the Toyota RAV4 Prime, by almost double. Compared to the 10,153 plug-ins that Toyota sold, the Wrangler 4xe sold 19,207 in the first six months of 2022.

The Wrangler 4xe's market may have a lot to do with their sheer availability, said Ivan Drury, automotive analyst with car review website Edmunds. Stellantis, Jeep's parent company, is producing a lot more than Toyota is of their hybrids. One indicator is that RAV4 Hybrid's “days-to-turn” - a measure of how long each one stays on a dealer lot before being sold – is just 13 days compared to the Wrangler 4xe's 20 days.

Jim Morrison, Jeep's North America chief, said a “large majority” of Wrangler 4xe buyers looked at other electrified options.

“It's good and consistent with what we're seeing as well”, Morrison told Automotive News. “It's great for Jeep to bring that customer into the showroom and, more importantly, to welcome them to the family.”
